Abraham 'Bram' Stoker was an Irish author best known today for his 1897 Gothic horror novel Dracula. During his lifetime, he was better known as the personal assistant of actor Henry Irving and business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London, which Irving owned. Stoker spent seven years researching European folklore and mythological stories of vampires before writing Dracula. The novel has never been out of print and has spawned countless adaptations across film, television, theatre, and literature.
